Serbia and Russia negotiating on the topic of the construction of a nuclear power plant in Serbia
As reported by the world and domestic media, the Russian state corporation “Rosatom” and the Serbian authorities have begun specific negotiations on the project to build a nuclear power plant in Serbia

According to the media, this was stated by the ambassador of Serbia in Russia, Momčilo Babić, to Izvestia, and further reported by RIA Novosti. The ambassador pointed out that he believes that there is no better company in the world for the construction of a nuclear power plant than the Russian Rosatom.
“I am convinced that progress will be made in the coming years, because we need electricity,” said the Serbian ambassador.
RIA Novosti also states that in November of last year, the Assembly of the Republic of Serbia lifted the moratorium on the construction of nuclear power plants, which had been in force since 1989, and that Serbia received the first preliminary study on the application of nuclear energy, which is the beginning of a comprehensive analysis of modern technologies in the field of nuclear energy and the possibility of their application in Serbia.
RT reminds again that the head of Rosatom’s sector for Central Europe, Sergej Margelov, stated in July that this organization is ready to be Serbia’s partner, not only in the eventual construction of a nuclear power plant, but in the creation of an entire branch of the energy industry, which will be self-sustaining and efficient in the future. He then pointed out that, due to the increase in electricity consumption in the coming years, Serbia will need a nuclear power plant. Then Margelov added that this Russian corporation works according to the “turnkey” system where “Rosatom” is also the owner of that nuclear power plant, which means that it provides full financing of the project during the construction phase and that it builds in Hungary and Turkey according to that system. At the time, Margelov also said that Serbia would need eight to 10 years to build a nuclear power plant, but that the deadline mostly depends on the state’s support for the project.
The news was also reported by some world media dealing with nuclear energy, such as NucNet.
